Description
We are seeking a university lecturer in gender studies with expertise in global studies and/or human rights with a clear gender studies focus.
The subject of gender studies is part of the Department of Social and Psychological Studies within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, alongside sociology, psychology, and social work.
We offer a dynamic work environment with engaged students and staff from around the world. As part of a personal university with close collaboration across subject boundaries, you will contribute to the development of a growing and international educational environment.
In the autumn semester of 2026, the Department of Gender Studies will launch a new interdisciplinary bachelor's program: Global Perspectives on Gender, Human Rights, and Social Justice. The program will be taught in English on-site in Karlstad and is aimed at both Swedish and international students. The program combines several subject areas with a clear gender studies profile.
The department has a dedicated and competent teaching team with broad expertise in gender studies. We are looking for someone who can complement the group with specific expertise in global studies and/or human rights with a clear gender focus and who can teach and communicate with students in English.
As the majority of the position involves teaching in the bachelor's program: Global Perspectives on Gender, Human Rights, and Social Justice, we particularly welcome applicants with a background in global studies, human rights, or law combined with gender studies expertise.

Responsibilities
The position primarily involves teaching in the bachelor's program: Global Perspectives on Gender, Human Rights, and Social Justice at the Department of Gender Studies. All teaching is conducted in English and takes place on-site in Karlstad. You will teach courses in global studies, gender studies, and human rights as well as in gender studies theory and methodology. The role includes course responsibility for one or more courses, where you, together with colleagues, are responsible for planning, implementation, and assessment.
The position requires presence at the workplace and active participation in daily work. This is important both for contributing to a good work environment and for supporting the continued development of education and the work community.
Eligibility Requirements
For the position of university lecturer, a bachelor's degree in gender studies or an equivalent degree in a related subject with a clear gender studies focus is required, for example, global studies, human rights, or law with a gender studies profile.

Assessment Criteria
In the appointment process, particular emphasis will be placed on documented teaching experience at the undergraduate level in one or more of the following subjects: gender studies, global studies, human rights, or another relevant subject area.
Particular emphasis is also placed on demonstrated pedagogical skills.
A master's degree in any of the above areas is advantageous.
We place great importance on personal qualities. We are looking for someone who:
- has good initiative and collaboration skills;
- can create good relationships with colleagues;
- contributes to a positive and inclusive work environment;
